  • Hugh: We take more of a “bottom up” approach at UCSD, while industry is “top down.” More companies are including sustainability as part of their annual reporting. Corporate side can educate and counsel the academics on turning out students who need to know about sustainability. UCSD focused on computers, big pharma, biotech. Need to see sustainability as a core academic value.

  • Mirle: Deans usually challenge around budget/finances and student time to completion. How can we express the urgency of the climate crises to them?Tack on curriculum discussion to climate action plan open meeting. Share climate action plan beyond just ACS. Bring in 40-50 people to get support and movement.
